Nowadays, more and more mobile phones have begun to use their AMOLED screens to replace the original TFT screens, and many phone friends often see AMOLED when purchasing a phone.
This mobile phone screen parameter, so what exactly is an AMOLED screen, what are its benefits, and what is the difference between it and a TFT screen?
What is AMOLED?
AMOLED (full name: Active Matrix/Organic Light Emitting Diode), Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) is known as the next generation of display technology, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDI, LG Philips all attach great importance to this new display technology. At present, in addition to Samsung Electronics and LG Philips, which focus on the development of large-size AMOLED products, Samsung SDI and AUO all focus on small and medium-sized products. At present, many Samsung mobile phones are equipped with AMOLED mobile phone screens (such as Samsung 8300). For example, the NOKIAN85 released in August 2008 and the NOKIA N86 launched in the first quarter of 2009 all use AMOLED, which shows that the current mainstream manufacturers Emphasis on AMOLED. Because AMOLED has more advantages than TFTLCD in terms of image quality, performance and cost. This is also the reason why many international manufacturers do not give up developing AMOLED despite the difficulty in breaking through the yield rate. In terms of display performance, AMOLED has a faster response speed, higher contrast, and wider viewing angle. These are the places where AMOLED is inherently better than TFTLCD. In addition, AMOLED has the characteristics of self-illumination and does not need to use a backlight, so it can do better than TFT. It is thin and light, and saves more power; there is a more important feature, AMOLED that does not need a backlight can save the cost of the backlight module, which accounts for 3~4% of the TFTLCD, especially the power saving features of AMOLED, which are very suitable for mobile phones. At present, the power consumption of AMOLED panel is only about 60% of that of TFTLCD, and there is still room for further decline in future technology. Of course, the biggest problem of AMOLED is the defective rate, so the price of AMOLED panel is 50% higher than that of TFTLCD, which is definitely a threshold for customers' willingness to adopt a lot. For Qijing, the yield rate is still being adjusted at this stage. During the training period, do not dare to take a large number of orders easily.
The difference between AMOLED screen and TFT screen: In fact, from the advantages of AMOLED summarized above, you can almost see the shortcomings of tft. Let me briefly summarize the difference between the two. TFT technology is more mature and widely used, and its technical indicators are not as good as AMOLED, but it is relatively stable. In principle, AMOLED emits light by itself, while TFT relies on a backlight. AMOLED is thinner, actively emits light (no backlight is required), has a wide viewing angle, high brightness, fast response, power saving... But the current disadvantage is that because it is a new product, the defect rate is high.
