According to the latest report of the research institute RUNTO, in the first half of 2022, panel makers in mainland China topped the list with a shipment of 84 million units and a market share of 67%, a record high.
In the first half of this year, 125 million LCD TV panels with a size of 32 inches or more were shipped worldwide, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%. Mainland manufacturers BOE, CSOT, and Huike were firmly in the top three.
1. Big but not strong
Due to well-known historical reasons, China's technology started late. Therefore, there are world-class giants in some fields in our country, and these giants are big but not strong.
For example, China's steel production accounts for 53% of the world's share, which means that China's steel production is more than the total output of all countries in the world except China. However, the output of special steel and high-quality grades is not as good as others. China's mobile phone shipments also account for half of the world's mobile phone shipments, but they are also big but not strong.
In the LCD industry, the main basic technology and patents are controlled by foreign countries, so although the LCD manufacturers in mainland China occupy the world's largest shipments, they are large but not strong.
2. Win by quantity
The intuitive feeling that China's LCD industry is large but not strong is to win with quantity, and the large quantity favors the best. This is directly related to our low production cost and production capacity. Only low cost can take the initiative in the market. Only by taking the initiative in the market can we have the power to expand production capacity. And our country's huge demographic dividend is the foundation of this kind of victory by quantity!
Winning by quantity often falls into the "28 criterion", producing more than half of the products but getting very little profit. Just like the mobile phone industry, Apple's global market share is less than 20%, but it has taken 60%-80% of its profits.
Therefore, the LCD industry cannot assume that it will become stronger just because its shipments occupy a dominant position in the market. The problem of foreign technology getting stuck in the neck is just around the corner, just today.
3. Quantitative change must actively promote qualitative change
Just like Huawei technology, from the initial catch-up to the run, from the run to the lead. China's technology industry should actively promote qualitative changes from quantitative changes.
We are willing to invest in scientific and technological innovation and voluntarily contribute to research and development. In the research and development of LCD and other technology products, the pursuit of new technologies, new standards, and new rules is assigned to me, and whoever it is! We can't stop at the amount, and lie on the report card of the amount and be complacent.
